Rocco. \u00abDalla pianura - informa il sito del Comune di Costa Serina - non si saliva direttamente lungo il fiume Brembo; vi erano sbarramenti naturali impossibili da superare in quel tempo, soprattutto all'altezza di Sedrina, dove il fiume scavava il suo corso in profondit\u00e0 tra le rocce e non lasciava spazio ad alcuno passaggio. Ugualmente per risalire la Val Serina dal basso, si incontrava subito lo sbarramento di roccia ad Ambria, perforato solo nei tempi moderni. Per raggiungere le miniere di Dossena, si seguiva allora la strada della Val Seriana fino a Nembro, poi si saliva a Selvino, si attraversava la conca seguendo l'itinerario Rigosa, Sambusita, Bracca, Frerola, Serina, per affacciarsi infine su Dossena. Molti secoli pi\u00f9 tardi questo passaggio verr\u00e0 abbreviato, ricavando un passaggio tra Serina e Cornalba, permettendo di proseguire a mezza costa verso Trafficanti, Aviatico e Selvino\u00bb.\\nIl percorso della Mercatorum resta sostanzialmente sulla costa della dorsale di Monte Suchello passando da un\u2019altitudine di 1021 metri a San Rocco a 780 dopo Tagliata al confine con Cornalba. La sua prerogativa \u00e8 di transitare attraverso diversi antichi nuclei abitativi, la cui disposizione urbanistica riprende proprio la corrispondenza con l\u2019antica viabilit\u00e0, come nel caso di Tagliata, la cui denominazione rimanda proprio al \u2018taglio\u2019 praticato dalla strada.\\nResta da segnalare che un buon tratto del percorso segue strade provinciali o comunali asfaltate essendo al momento difficile individuare sentieri pedonali alternativi.\\nIl comune di Costa Serina ha attivato da tempo una politica a favore del recupero dei sentieri storici locali. Uno di questi prende oggi il nome di Sentiero \u201cdel sole e dei sensi\u201d e prende in considerazione anche un tratto della Via Mercatorum. Inoltre la pubblicazione di una Carta dei sentieri, disponibile anche on-line, propone altri quattro itinerari ad anello nel territorio comunale. Infine il Comune di Costa Serina suggerisce anche una variante \u2018alta\u2019 della Via Mercatorum da Sant\u2019Erasmo al santuario della Forcella. Tale tracciato \u00e8 indicato come asse principale della Via Mercatorum nella Carta del Lombardo-Veneto a scala 1:28.800, rilievo 1819.&quot;}\" data-sheets-userformat=\"{&quot;2&quot;:12737,&quot;3&quot;:{&quot;1&quot;:0,&quot;3&quot;:1},&quot;9&quot;:0,&quot;10&quot;:1,&quot;11&quot;:4,&quot;15&quot;:&quot;Arial&quot;,&quot;16&quot;:10}\">The path, arriving from Aviatico, enters the municipal territory of Costa Serina at the church of San Rocco. \u201cFrom the plain,\u201d states the Costa Serina municipality\u2019s website, \u201cit wasn\u2019t possible to ascend directly along the river Brembo; there were natural obstructions that were impossible to overcome at that time, especially at Sedrina, where the river had carved its course deep into the rocks and left no space for any passage. Similarly, to ascend the Val Serina from below, one immediately encountered the rock barrier at Ambria, which was tunnelled only in modern times. To reach the mines of Dossena, the route followed the Val Seriana valley road as far as Nembro, then ascended to Selvino, crossed the basin following the itinerary running through Rigosa, Sambusita, Bracca, Frerola and Serina, and finally approached Dossena. Many centuries later, this route would be shortened, by creating a connection between Serina and Cornalba, so that the track could continue halfway up the mountainside towards Trafficanti, Aviatico and Selvino.\u201d<br \/>\nThe Mercatorum Way principally follows the slope below the Monte Suchello ridge, descending from an altitude of 1,021 metres at San Rocco to 780 metres after Tagliata on the border with Cornalba. Its distinctive feature is the fact that it runs through several ancient settlements, whose urban layout corresponds precisely to the ancient road system, as in the case of Tagliata, whose name, which can be translated as \u201ccut,\u201d is a reference to the road\u2019s route.<br \/>\nIt should be noted that a large proportion of the route follows asphalted provincial or municipal roads, as it would currently be difficult to identify alternative footpaths.<br \/>\nFor some time, the municipality of Costa Serina has been pursuing a policy of recovering local historical paths. One of these is now called the \u201cSentiero del sole e dei sensi\u201d (Path of the sun and the senses) and this also includes part of the Mercatorum Way. In addition, the publication of a Map of Paths, also available online, proposes four other circular routes in the municipal territory. Lastly, the municipality of Costa Serina also suggests a \u201chigh-altitude\u201d variant of the Mercatorum Way, from Sant\u2019Erasmo to the Forcella shrine. Even today, this activity is still referenced by this hamlet\u2019s place name: Trafficanti in fact recalls the important activity of trade (hence \u201ctraffic\u201d) that hallmarked this area, both as a route for minerals arriving from the Dossena mines, and for the presence of retailers of goods and foodstuffs. Situated on the road that connects Serina with Selvino, two towns with notable tourist appeal and a flat road profile, today it is a favourite route for walks suitable for all.
